In the book "Among the Hidden" , people live under the rule of totalitarian government. Government makes all the rules and tell people how to live their lives. One of those rules is population control. Should the government have a right to make such rules or should the power of the government be limited? Learn more about the government systems.
Challenge 1- Population Police
The novel "Among the Hidden" presents a society in which population is controlled by the government. In Among the Hidden, Luke is a third child in a world where only 2 are allowed. While this seems weird to us, this is a policy used in China. However, they only allow one child. After reading the novel, check the resources below (article and video) on China's population policy. Then, write an informative essay in which you compare the "Among the Hidden" population control to that of China. Present your essay in a digital form through tools such as Prezi, Animoto or create a documentary.

Challenge 2 - Who should control our school lunches?
Obesity and related diseases have been in the news for years. There is no doubt that being overweight creates a health risk. Today many American kids are overweight. But, who should be responsible for helping the nation trim its fat- the government or the people?
